John 4:23 “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers
will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to
worship Him.”
What is in your alabaster box, what is your most treasured earthly
possession, are you prepared to smash it and lay everything down for
Jesus Christ? Come naked before God and just worship Him.
Once you have laid everything down for Christ you may feel empty and broken
but this is the perfect condition for the Holy Spirit to fill you and your cup will overflow.
Philippians 1:20-22 “according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell.”
Do you place great value on something, someone, a memory or even money? Do you treasure, guard, seek to protect or worship material possessions or people? God wants us to worship Him alone! Worship means to revere, adore, love, be devoted to and honour, does this depict your attitude and relationship towards God?
The bible says we were made to worship God; nothing else should take His place, the first commandment states that thou should have no other God before me. Exodus 20:3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.”
Even the pregnant woman who carried her promise for nine months then laboured to bring forth life is alarmed to acknowledge that not even this little bundle of joy can take the rightful place that is reserved for God alone in our lives. God is a Jealous God, Jealous when His people seek His gifts and worship them instead of Him the Giver. James 1:17 “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” Why then do we place things above God?
God wants us to abandon ourselves, let our spirit connect with His heart – True worship, to see what He sees, to feel what he feels, to hear what He hears, to know the father heart of God and bring our mind, bodies and souls in line with His will. “Not my will but thy will be done” When this is said in Spirit and in truth we are to yield ourselves to God for Him to fill us and use as a vessel, to bring glory to His name. What a privilege! 2 Corinthians 4:7 “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.”
It is only when we step outside of ourselves; outside of our will and into the unknown territory of God’s will do we qualify as true worshippers. It is then that we begin to praise, appreciate, adore and lavish our love upon Him from a place that is free from our agenda, our wants and desires. We desire what God wants regardless of how that will affect our carefully laid plans and we express gratitude in what ever state we find ourselves in, because we know by faith – God is in control.
Are you prepared to break that thing that is vying for God’s place and exchange all your earthly treasures just as Mary did by pouring all her love, accomplishments, gain or satisfaction into worshipping Jesus. Mark 14:3 “And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head.”
Ultimately, In light of the Cross of Christ, the Blood that was shed, the redemption that resulted, we have much to be grateful for, much love to lavish on our Saviour. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. This is the only true thing that we have to celebrate and the fact that we have been placed on this earth to be witnesses to others so that they can come to saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, all the rest of it is vanity and pride.
I am not saying that you cannot enjoy the blessings God gives…… taking a long drive in the mode of transport that God has blessed you with whilst admiring His awesome creation, playing with the Grandchildren and seeing the Hope and expectation in the eyes of a child, entertaining friends and family in the lovely conservatory that God afforded you with as the glorious beam of His sunlight illuminates His glory, holding your head high as God exalts you in your work place, being able to travel the world and see the expanse of God’s handiwork, rejoicing in divine favour as God unveils His sovereign plan in your life and in the lives of those around you. No, I am not saying despise the blessings in your life but all gratitude, all honour, all praise should go back to God. God states clearly in His word “seek ye first the kingdom of God and all things shall be added unto you.” Matt 6:33.
In addition when hard times come and the storm is raging……… you or a family member are diagnosed with cancer, your son or daughter are rebelling in a way that is breaking your heart and you feel like a failure and that God is not there, you have just lost your job, your husband wants a divorce, a loved one dies, they are about to repossess the house, you’ve lost everything – Rejoice my sister because as a child of God you know that God is working all things together for the good of them that love him and are called according to His purpose! God’s promises are yes and amen, this statement shows that God approves and will fufil His promise and that He has already done so in the Spirit realm – Amen means so be it! It’s final it is finished it is settled.
When Jesus shed His blood at Calvary, he uttered the words, it is finished! The ultimate sacrifice resulted in the fulfilment of God’s redemption for mankind, Jesus yielded Himself to the father’s will and he acknowledged it is done, finished, settled. No demon, No devil, No power of Hell, not even Satan himself can revert God’s sovereign plan. In light of this ladies when you give everything to Jesus, the good, the bad and the ugly and just worship Him for who He is and the price He paid for your sins, you begin to enter into spirit and truth, God’s spirit and God’s truth. Your life will be transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, a total makeover, a reflection of Christ!
Why is God seeking for those who will worship him in spirit and in truth? He wants to know that His remnant is trustworthy, committed and faithful to the fulfilment of seeking and saving the lost. Spirit and truth is a place that is holy, that is free from spot caused by our desires, wants, grumbling, attitudes and pride. It is the place where the bride of Christ is purged, sanctified and cleansed, a place where the Holy Spirit dwells and operates without restriction and in power, anticipating the return of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
I urge you sisters, to lay all earthly treasures at the foot of the cross today and pour your love, appreciation, your desire to be holy and do God’s will upon the saviour today! Let the oil of the Holy spirit and the fragrance of Jesus be the only thing contained in your Alabaster box.
