Understanding God’s Purpose for the Feast of Tabernacles

The apostle Paul told the mostly Gentile church in Corinth to keep the feasts of Passover and Unleavened Bread.

“Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth” (1 Corinthians 5:7-8).

The Church was founded when the disciples were all celebrating the Day of Pentecost.

“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place” (Acts 2:1).

Jesus Christ celebrated the Feast of Tabernacles and Eighth Day even though His life was in danger.

“After these things Jesus walked in Galilee; for He did not want to walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill Him. Now the Jews’ Feast of Tabernacles was at hand… Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught… On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink’“ (John 7:1-2, 14, 37).

These are just a few of the many references to the seven “feasts of the Lord” (Leviticus 23:2) in the New Testament.

In his first inspired sermon after receiving the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, the apostle Peter summed up God’s instruction for mankind: “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began” (Acts 3:19-21).

But what are these “times of refreshing” and “times of restoration” of which Peter spoke?

God’s plan for mankind involves restoration.

The Feast of Tabernacles symbolises the restoration process, which will start with the return of Jesus Christ, pictured by the Feast of Trumpets, and the banishment of Satan, depicted by the Day of Atonement. Once these events have taken place, as represented by the previous Holy Days, the foundation is in place for the restoration of the creation to peace and harmony with God.

The seven-day Feast of Tabernacles, which begins with an annual Holy Day (Leviticus 23:34-35), pictures the 1,000-year reign of Jesus Christ over the earth after His second coming (see Revelation 20:4). This period is often called the Millennium, which simply means “1,000 years.”

This feast also reflects the “rest” symbolised by the weekly Sabbath (Hebrews 4:1-11) that celebrates the great harvest of humanity when all people then alive will learn God’s ways. Humanity will at last be restored to a right relationship with Him (Isaiah 11:9-10).

In the beginning, God created mankind to cooperate with Him in a beautiful relationship characterised by love, peace and obedience to His laws. At the completion of His creation, “God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good” (Genesis 1:31).

This time of peace and harmony abruptly ended because of Satan’s deception and man’s disobedience (Genesis 3:1-6).

Disobedience cut mankind off from God’s way (Genesis 3:21-24). The Bible describes the tragic result that later followed: “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Genesis 6:5).

This broken relationship between God and man has continued through history to our time. Paul reflected on the human condition: “Through one man [Adam] sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned” (Romans 5:12).

Thankfully, as Paul also knew, the breach created by man’s disobedience is healed through Jesus Christ: “For since by man [Adam] came death, by Man [Christ] also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:21-22).

Isaiah prophesied the restoration of the world

God used the prophet Isaiah to reveal parts of His magnificent plan for restoring the world. Written at a time when Israel faced punishment for continued disobedience, the book of Isaiah was inspired by God to give the nation encouragement through the promise of a better world ahead.

After reading in the synagogue one of Isaiah’s prophecies, Jesus acknowledged the special understanding given to the prophet: “These things Isaiah said when he saw His glory and spoke of Him” (John 12:41). Isaiah prophesied not only of Christ’s earthly ministry, but also wrote of His return in power and glory (Isaiah 66:15-16).

The basis for the messianic rule of Jesus will be God’s law.

Again, as Isaiah foretold, “It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it.

Many people shall come and say, ‘Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.’ For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem” (Isaiah 2:2-3).

A world of peace and abundance

After Jesus Christ’s return, He will bring the creation in its entirety into harmony with God, and peace will no longer be the exception.

King David said, “Great peace have those who love Your law” (Psalms 119:165).

Imagine what the world will be like when everyone knows God’s law and lives by it!

At that time the earth will produce abundant harvests. “Behold, the days are coming,” God says, “when the ploughman shall overtake the reaper …”

Of course, more than just knowledge is needed to bring about this amazing transformation. A spiritual change must take place among people.

God, speaking through the prophet Ezekiel, describes how it will happen: “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them” (Ezekiel 36:26-27).

The Spirit of God will influence people to willingly and enthusiastically obey God from their hearts.

People will begin to place the interests of others before their own.

They will start thinking of others as “better than themselves” (Philippians 2:3, KJV).

Instead of exclusive self-concern, their goal will be to help their fellow human beings.

Theft will cease.

Disregard for others’ property and feelings will be eliminated.

With the coming of world peace, countries will “beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore” (Isaiah 2:4; Micah 4:3).

During this 1,000-year period, God will change even the nature of wild animals, reflecting the peace that will descend upon society.

Describing this idyllic time, Isaiah 11:7-9 says: “The cow and the bear shall graze; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole, and the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain . . .”

Reversing the effects of sin

God also will heal people’s physical infirmities. Isaiah 35:5-6 prophesies of this time during which “the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then shall the lame leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing for joy” (ESV).

Of even greater importance will be the spiritual healing that will take place.

Isaiah prophesied that Jesus Christ will complete the healing He began during His ministry on earth: “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn, to console those who mourn in Zion . . .” (Isaiah 61:1-3; Luke 4:18-19).

The accumulated results of generations of people following Satan’s sinful ways will begin to be reversed.

The Feast of Tabernacles is also called the Feast of Ingathering (Exodus 23:16).

This name signified the completion of Israel’s annual harvest.

In this setting, God said, “You shall rejoice before the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 12:12, Deuteronomy 12:18; Deuteronomy 14:26).

So this feast is a time of celebration for the abundance God has given.

The same bountiful harvest theme continues in the future fulfilment of this festival.

Through Isaiah, God spoke of the desert becoming productive land: “For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert. The parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water” (Isaiah 35:6-7).

At that time the earth will produce abundant harvests. “Behold, the days are coming,” God says, “when the ploughman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him who sows seed; the mountains shall drip with sweet wine, and all the hills shall flow with it” (Amos 9:13).

The significance of tabernacles

The name of the Feast of Tabernacles derives from God’s command to ancient Israel to build temporary “tabernacles,” sometimes called “booths,” to live in during the festival.

The Israelites left their houses and built temporary dwelling places (the Hebrew sukkah denoted a “hut of woven boughs”) to live in while rejoicing before God.

These reminded them of their release from slavery and their dwelling in booths when God brought them out of Egypt (Leviticus 23:34, Leviticus 23:41-43).

In stark contrast to the hardship of slavery, this festival emphasises rest, peace and prosperity as it meets the needs of all people, including strangers, widows and the poor.

The Bible emphasises that, as with booths or temporary dwellings, our physical life is transitory.

The apostle Paul’s writings reflect this theme: “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven” (2 Corinthians 5:1-2, KJV).

Hebrews 11 recounts the examples of many of God’s faithful servants down through the centuries. It then concludes that “these all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth” (Hebrews 11:13).

The Feast of Tabernacles is an annual reminder of our temporary state and that we also “seek a homeland” (Hebrews 11:14).

This lesson is reinforced when we travel to a site of the Feast of Tabernacles and stay in temporary dwellings such as hotels and campgrounds.

This festival reminds us that, in spite of our material possessions, we are still physical, mortal human beings in need of a literal transformation so we may possess eternal life (1 Corinthians 15:50-54).

In the accounts of the vision that has come to be called the “transfiguration,” Jesus gave a glimpse of the Kingdom of God to Peter, James and John. Christ appeared in glory and was talking with Moses and Elijah. Peter’s immediate response was to suggest that they quickly construct three tabernacles. He seemed to understand the important connection between tabernacles and the future age of God’s Kingdom (Matthew 17:1-9; Luke 9:27-36).

The role of the resurrected saints in the Millennium

The judgment of the inhabitants of the earth who live during the 1,000 years as pictured by the Feast of Tabernacles (Isaiah 2:4; Isaiah 51:4-5) begins in earnest as Christ brings “many sons to glory” (Hebrews 2:10).

These scriptures show that this judgment is a time of universal opportunity for salvation.

For this purpose God has allocated 1,000 years during which the resurrected saints, the first fruits of God’s harvest from this age, will reign with Christ on earth as kings and priests, leading the way for many others to enter God’s Kingdom (Revelation 5:10; Revelation 20:6).

Jesus promised, “He who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations” (Revelation 2:26).

People whom Christ resurrects at His return will experience the unparalleled opportunity to work with Him to help all nations build a right relationship with God.

The foundation for this relationship begins with instruction in God’s law, including the observance of these very festivals we are now studying.

Notice the words of the prophet Zechariah: “And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles” (Zechariah 14:16).

Other prophets described this future time as an era when God’s law will cover the earth “as the waters cover the sea” (Isaiah 11:9; Habakkuk 2:14).

Many will assist Jesus Christ in this universal educational program of helping others understand God’s way.

Speaking of this time, Isaiah says teachers “will not be moved into a corner anymore, but your eyes shall see your teachers. Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left” (Isaiah 30:20-21).

The opportunity to help others understand and be reconciled to God is a wonderful calling.

Each who serves in this way will be called “the Repairer of the Breach, the Restorer of Streets to Dwell In” (Isaiah 58:12).

God calls people out of the world at this time to become His chosen people, sanctified and redeemed by Him (2 Corinthians 6:16-18, 2 Corinthians 7:1).

They are to live exemplary lives as God prepares them for service during Christ’s millennial reign and beyond.

“Beloved,” the apostle Peter wrote, “I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, having your conduct honourable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation” (1 Peter 2:11-12).

One final conflict

All through God’s plan for saving humanity, He never forces anyone to obey Him. Every person is free to choose what he or she will do and whether to accept or reject God’s way of life.

After the 1,000 years, God will allow Satan to test the spiritual convictions of the earth’s inhabitants.

Revelation 20:7-10 describes this time. God will release the devil from his place of restraint and allow him to deceive those who are not convicted of the perfect righteousness of God’s way.

God will destroy by fire those who follow Satan in this rebellion.

The devil’s futile efforts will be thwarted.

This final, tragic rebellion against God will come to nothing, and Satan’s destructive, deceitful influence over humanity will finally draw to a close.

Daily Prayer for our Nation

daily-for-our-nation-2

This prayer can be prayed every day, or once a week. You can pray the whole prayer in 15-20 minutes, or over five days (in 3 minutes). You can use it as a guide to pray for the UK, or pray it as it is. Remember, God is not religious. But He expects us to have a spiritual discipline (I Timothy 4:8). We shouldn’t pray for the UK, only when we “feel led” – because He has already led us by His Word (inspired by the Spirit) to pray (1 Timothy 2:1), and to pray daily (Matthew 6:11). If God brought the sun out, every now and then, when He felt like it; our world would be in chaos. Similarly, the erratic prayer-lives of Christians can throw a whole nation into confusion.

Monday (Thanksgiving and Repentance)

Lord we bring this nation before You. We thank you for your abundant blessings upon this land. You have filled it with beauty – green pastures, forests, hills, mountains, valleys and streams. There is no end to the splendour of Your Majesty reflected on its shores. You have given it four seasons, and plentiful rain. You have made this land fruitful, and made this nation one that is honoured amongst the nations of the world. You and only You have done this. We look up to You with hearts filled with gratitude. Bless the Lord O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.

We thank you for the fathers of this land, the many great men and women who laid down their lives to serve You, the Living God. Who left behind the comfort and security of their own homes, to fulfil Your commission to us the Church, to make disciples of the Nations. We remind You of their sacrifice, their many tears, their zeal and their love for You. Today the Nations know You, because of their work. Will You not look down from Heaven, and remember this land?

We confess that we the church have sinned against You in so many ways that words cannot describe. We have strayed away from Your arms of Love, and chased after false gods. We have been ashamed of Your name. We have become lukewarm. We have become complacent, and our complacency has nearly destroyed our nation. We have fallen asleep, when we were meant to pray, and given Satan the opportunity to sow weeds in our midst. We have chased after our own pleasures, and not sought Your Kingdom first. We have not given You the pre-eminence in our midst that You deserve. We have allowed the yeast of wrong teaching to spread in our midst, and tolerated the teachings of Balaam, that cause Your people to commit sexual immorality. We have not honoured You in our marriages.

We have tolerated people who have used Your name and the gifts of Your Spirit for profit, unlike Jesus who drove out the money-changers from the Temple. We have given ourselves to a little slumber, a little rest, and spiritual poverty has come upon us like a thief. To this day we have hardened our hearts, and refused to repent, fast and pray. We have held on to a form of religion, and denied You Power in our midst.

We have not grieved before You, as babies have been slaughtered, in their mothers’ wombs. Forgive us for the innocent blood that has been shed in our country. We confess that we have not cared for the many fatherless children in our nation, children who have turned in violent anger toward each other, children who have sought love by giving up their purity at a young age. Our children have turned to drugs and alcohol, for we have failed to raise them up in Your ways, or to teach them to fear You. Having preached to many, we seemed to have lost our way.

Today we come before You. We remind You of the Blood of Jesus that cries out on our Behalf, louder than the blood of Abel. We ask You to forgive the sins of our land, as You have promised to do, if we confess them; and to cleanse this nation of all unrighteousness. Today O God our eyes on You. Let us not be put to shame, and let not our enemy triumph over us.

Tuesday (For those in Authority, and the Church)

Let Your mercy and Your grace flow to the UK, like an ocean broad and deep. Pour out Your Spirit on all flesh. Revive our souls, that we may praise You. Build Your church O Lord, and let the gates of Hades never prevail against it. Wake up your people from their slumber. Let the dry bones come alive, and become a vast army for You. We prophecy to these bones and say, “Blow wind blow….Roar like a lion, and let Your children come running to You” from this Western nation.

We pray for our all those in authority over our land, in the Church, the Parliament, the Supreme Court, the Royal Family, and the European Parliament. We pray that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. Destroy the sceptre of the wicked over our nation, for Your word says the wicked shall not reign over the righteous. Your word says also that when the righteous reign, the people rejoice. So today bring forth the reign of the righteous in our land. Touch the hearts of Your bond slaves to stand for elections in every constituency. Grant them wisdom, grace and favour. Bring Your people, the Josephs, the Daniels, the Nehemiahs, the Mordecais into positions of influence over our land. Remove from such position anyone who seeks to destroy Your Church, as Haman sought to destroy Israel.

We pray for those who rule over us. We pray that You will raise men and women of integrity who truly care for our welfare and not ones that exploit us, or abuse their power, for personal gain. We ask You, for leaders that we can look up to. Remove anyone within the Houses of Parliament who is a hindrance to Your gospel. Bring into places of Power those, who like Joseph, have the wisdom to administer the resources of this nation well.

We confuse any plans to promote euthanasia, or any other evil laws in our nation, in Jesus’ name. We nullify the laws supporting abortion, using the authority given us in Jesus name. You have said that with You all things are possible. Show us how to partner with You, to eradicate these murderous laws. If there are mothers who seek to abort their babies, cause them to have a change of heart. Grant them the grace to seek Your will, and make all grace abound to them in raising their children.

Blow Holy Spirit through our schools, our hospitals, our prisons, police stations, financial institutions, our music, and TV and film industry. Blow out the dust that has settled. Destroy the works of Satan in Jesus’ name.

We pray for Your church in our land. We sprinkle the Blood of Jesus on all Your people, and ask You to place Your armour over them – the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, and feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Help us to pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. Make us holy, for You are Holy. Sanctify us, set us apart for Your glory. Pour out a spirit of intercession. Build us up into a House of Prayer for all the Nations. Add to our numbers daily, those who would intercede fervently for our land. Let us lift You up through our Praises, and gladden Your heart with our love songs to You. Build up the Holy walls around our cities and our villages, repair the breaches, and restore Your church to its former glory.

Make us one in Your body. Let zeal for Your House consume us. Let us carry our cross and follow You. Let us never love anyone, or anything more than You. Let us seek You with all our hearts, and desire Your presence as the deer pants for living waters. Let us acknowledge You in everything. When we are faced with trials and temptations, let us turn to You for strength and wisdom, and not lean upon our own understanding. Let the flame of Your gospel burn brighter in our land.

Wednesday (Church Leaders, Family and Children)

We pray for our church leaders, that they would lead holy lives, and set a godly example for Your sheep. Make the church leadership effective in discipling Your people, into mature, bold, and zealous Christians, who are full of grace and wisdom. Deliver our leaders from presumptuous sins, and from leading Your people on the basis of their own understanding. Give us leaders like Moses and Joshua, who enquire after Your will in everything; who seek to build Your Kingdom, rather than their own. Give us Pastors and Preachers who know how to handle the Word of Truth, correctly. Expose and remove the false prophets, apostles and teachers from within our midst us, in Jesus’ name.

We bind the spirits of pharoahic oppression, the spirits of prayerlessness and of Amalek that operate against Your church in Jesus’ name. We cast out the mocker from within Your church, so that strife will end, in Jesus name. Grant us a spirit of wisdom and of revelation. Lead us to worship You in Spirit and in Truth.

Restore the unity within our homes, let marriage between a man and a woman be held in honour, and the marriage bed be kept pure. We pray against divorce, and strife in families, in Jesus’ name. Heal our children, their wounded and ravaged souls. Raise them up as a Joshua generation that will go in boldly to take the Land.

We pray for our children, their schools, for Heads of schools, and of Education, grant us honourable men and women to be the latter. Show us how to raise our children up in Your ways, so that they do not depart from them. Help us to set godly examples before them. Ordain praise from the mouths of our children; bring back daily prayer to our schools, in Jesus’ name. Let there be daily bible study in schools, for every child.

Teach us to make education a source of fun, and adventure. Let our education system be suited to meet the needs of every child, to identify and promote individual strengths. Let our children show proper respect to their parents and to those in authority. We bind the spirits of disobedience and rebellion operating over our land, in Jesus’ name. Deliver our children from every evil influence in the media. Expose and destroy all the evil influences over our children’s lives, in Jesus’ name.

We pray for the work of those who minister the gospel to our children. Let them preach it boldly, and live holy lives, that many children will be saved, daily, through their efforts. Lord of the Harvest, send forth the workers into our nurseries, schools and colleges, for the Harvest is ripe and the workers are few. In Jesus’ name we pray.

Remove the names of the false gods from our midst; let them not be heard in our land. We bind the spirits of the anti-Christ, the spirits of atheism, idolatry, New Age, deception and false religion; in Jesus’ name. We destroy the pagan altars in our land, in Jesus’ name. We bind the spirits that seek to destroy our children, in Jesus’ name. We claim every bit of the land in our nation, and declare it holy and consecrated to You.

Thursday (For Justice, Law and Order, Entertainment Industry, Against Crime, For Healthcare)

We pray for our courts of justice – let Justice Flow live a river. Cancel out the unfair taxes we have levied on poor nations that have sought to trade their goods in our country. We pray over every ruling in the courtrooms of our nation, that it would be right in Your eyes. Let Your will be done in our Land, as in Heaven, so on earth. We ask You for judges who deal with integrity. Remove from this position of power, anybody who opposes Your gospel, or acts unjustly or corruptly; and who will not repent.

We pray for our entertainment industry – those working in the arts, music, TV, theatre and film. We thank You for the talented men and women You have given us. Let them turn their hearts to You in repentance, and make Your salvation known to them. Jesus, we crown You as King over our entertainment industry, and reject Satan’s dominion over this realm. We declare the Lordship of Jesus over the newspaper industry. Deliver it from the evil one. Let Your will be done through it, as in Heaven, so on earth. Let Your name be glorified through these media, and let it become an instrument to disciple the nations. We severe Satan’s hold over our nation, through the media in Jesus’ name.

We declare that we Your church will rise up and stand upright; and our enemies will bow down and fall, in Jesus’ mighty name. We pray for our athletes, let them compete for Your glory. Strengthen them to behave as worthy role models for our children, and preserve the honour of our nation.

We pray against paedophilia, child abuse, domestic violence, murder and financial crimes in Jesus’ name. Outlaw blasphemy once more, and preserve the glory of Your name. We pray against the growth of pornography, the sex trade, human and drug trafficking. Expose and dis-empower the leaders of these networks in Jesus’ name. Protect our nation from terrorists, and violent gangs.

We pray for those who commit grievous crimes in our land that they would repent, and turn away from their criminal activities. Bring repentance and salvation to these violent men and women, as You redeemed Saul of Tarsus, a violent man, who became Your bond slave. Expose and thwart every plan of Satan’s to bring confusion, and chaos to our nation, in Jesus’ name.

We pray for the police and the army. Restore law and order in Jesus’ name. We pray for men and women of courage and integrity who seek to protect our land and its borders. Remove every tendency toward racism, and discrimination within these services, and from our country. Protect these men and women, who work to protect us, by the Power of Your Blood. Let them turn their eyes to You, for help.

We pray for our hospitals, destroy the excessive bureaucracy that devours our health budget. Give us healthcare leaders who will administer public funds wisely, to benefit patients. Let healthcare workers enjoy, and find fulfilment in their work. We pray against plagues – the swine flu, and any other plague that Satan may petition You to send against our land. We counter-petition Satan, in the name of Jesus.

Friday (For Scientists, the Economy, the Poor, the Alien, Widows and Orphans and the Environment)

We pray for our scientists and our researchers. We pray for divine breakthrough in science, technology and medicine in Jesus’ name. Let these scientists seek Truth, and not promote falsehood, or their personal prejudices cloaked in science. Expose powerfully the pseudo-science that forms the basis of the theory of Evolution,”alternate” sexuality, abortion and euthanasia. Jesus, give us the wisdom to refute these arguments powerfully, as You once silenced those who sought to oppose Your Truth. Enable us to do this with great understanding, patience and respect for our opponents, so that Your name is glorified.

We pray for our financial institutions, the small businesses, the high street banks, and our stock market. Bless and prosper our economy, for in its prosperity lies ours. We pray for wisdom for our leaders in levying taxes, as You gave Joseph wisdom, give them wisdom. Let our system of taxation be fair and appropriate before Your Holy eyes. Let it not be a burden on anybody, let it not hinder enterprise, or hold people back from seeking employment. Let it not discourage anyone from working hard. Sieve through our benefits system, and expose those who commit benefit fraud. Give the British a hard-working working ethic. Give righteous men and women the power to make money, to feed their families, and to care for those less fortunate than them.

Give us hearts of compassion for the poor, and let us never turn a deaf ear to their cries. Let the wealth of the wicked come into the hands of the righteous. Cancel out the financial supply of those who use their money to bring unrighteous laws, or unholy lobby groups. Deliver our nation from the love of money that is a snare. Bless us for the generosity we have shown to refugees and poorer countries.

Teach us how to treat the alien in our land, in accordance with Your will. Where we have failed to deal with them in fairness, and mercy, forgive us. Protect our land from those who seek to exploit our kindness. In Jesus’ name, we bind the spirits of the anti-christ, the spirits of false religion, the demon of lust, the spirits of waywardness and prostitution. We release a spirit of repentance and salvation over this nation, in Jesus’ name.

We pray for the orphan, the widow, the disabled, and the poor in our midst. Remove our apathy. Fill us with a heart of compassion. Give us wisdom and the knowledge to care for them. Protect them from those who would seek to exploit them, in Jesus’ name. Teach us to honour senior citizens. Protect them from being exploited, or abused, in Jesus’ name we pray.

We pray for our roads, our waterways and our airways. We ask You to protect those who travel within, to and from our land, through the Power of Your name. Cause people to drive safely, and with consideration. We pray that we would all respect the traffic laws. We pray for our environment that we would be good stewards of this beautiful land, and preserve it for our children.

We remind You of Your promise, that You will hear us when we call. We remind You to deal with us in mercy and compassion, because of Jesus’ sacrifice on behalf of our nation. Remember our prayers on behalf of our nation. Protect us from the evil one, bless us for we have been faithful to pray. For we ask all this in the name that is above every name, in Heaven, on earth and below the earth, the Name of Jesus, Our Lord.

Jesus, we crown You as King over Britain, and proclaim Your Lordship over our land. Let us reign with You forever. Amen.
