Secret Halal Meat Sale

Britain ‘s biggest supermarket chains are selling halal lamb and chicken without telling unsuspecting shoppers, reported the Mail on Sunday.

The paper had to force an admission out of the major supermarkets, none of whom tell shoppers whether their lamb is ritually slaughtered, even when a Muslim slaughterman is intoning ‘Bismillah Allah-hu-Akbar’ (meaning ‘In the name of Allah, who is the greatest’) over each animal killed.

No beef sold is halal, it seems. But 5% of chicken sold in Tesco is halal as is 35% of the store’s UK lamb. None of it is labelled as such. The Co-op is the same. Asda are dumping halal chicken and lamb onto their fresh meat counters and the majority of frozen New Zealand lamb is halal.  Only M&S and Morrisons guarantee their fresh meat to be non-halal, but even they do not label their NZ frozen as halal.

Find out More at the Christian Voice

Take Action

WRITE: to the major supermarkets in the UK using this word template.

DRAFT LETTER

Names and addresses of Supermarkets

READ: Lev 19:4; Psalm 96:5; Isa 2:18; Zech 13:2; Mark 7:18-23; Acts 21:25; 1Cor 8:1-13, 10:18-28; Rev 2:14.20. Also read the Bible Article: Halal Meat – What is the Christian Position?

WRITE: To your MP at House of Commons, LONDON , SW1A 1AA . Ask him to press for honest labelling of halal ritually-slaughtered meat.

PRAY: That honest labelling will be brought in and that the demand for halal meat will evaporate as more people realise what they are being offered and refuse it.

IN THE MEANTIME, Those of us who do object to halal meat may find it appropriate to boycott New Zealand lamb, and all lamb in ASDA, the Co-op, Tesco, Somerfield, Waitrose and Sainsbury.

Right to Believe

A THREAT TO RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

This year the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, linking 57 countries with majority or significant Muslim populations, will once again introduce the Defamation of Religions Resolution in the United Nations.

It allows governments the power to determine which religious views can and can’t be expressed in their country, and it gives the state the right to punish those who express ‘unacceptable’ religious views as they see fit. So in effect, it makes persecution legal. This year the Resolution could be defeated, with your help.

Add your signature to Open Doors’ global petition which they will deliver to the UN later this year.

THE GLOBAL PETITION

I believe that ‘everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance’ (Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 18).

I am deeply concerned that the Defamation of Religions Resolution has the effect of severely restricting these foundational freedoms and undermines the right to religious liberty. I urge that everything possible is done to ensure that the United Nations rejects this resolution.

Please remember the three key issues as you cast your vote

The polling booths open in less than 24 hours. As you consider how to vote, please remember the biblical vision of what makes for a peaceful and prosperous society and to value God’s wisdom over that of any political leader. Please also continue to cry out to the living and life-giving God that He might have mercy on this country and raise up godly leaders.

As the campaigns come to a close, we continue to underline the vital importance of three key areas. We do so not because they are the only issues of interest to Christians but because they are fundamental to the very foundation and fabric of our society and because they are currently under relentless attack. The ‘litmus tests’ of the future shape of the society that we and our children will inhabit are:

The protection of the most vulnerable in society—especially those at the earliest (unborn) and final stages of this life. (Christians make an enormous and positive contribution to serving the needs of the marginalised. We long to see justice for all and our concern for arguably the most vulnerable—the unborn and those nearing death—naturally flows from this).

The promotion of the family, biblically and traditionally understood, as the basic building block of a healthy society.

The proclamation of Jesus Christ as the only ultimate hope for our nation.

Despite the fact there are many wonderful politicians doing great work within each of the biggest political parties none of the parties now publicly support the biblical position on all three of these issues. This makes voting decisions harder and underlines the importance of voting in light of the commitments of the particular candidates in your constituency.

The issues at stake are so significant, that we believe that candidates’ positions on them outweighs other considerations—whether party loyalty or sympathy on matters such as economic, environmental or foreign policy.

Please use the following resources to find out more about your candidates. Please continue to probe them and let us have any information that would be of interest to other Christian voters.

  • Watch the mini-documentary and read the resources available from the ‘Guide to the Issues’ section of the Christians and Candidates website.
  • View details of your candidates and any information that has been supplied by Christians at the ‘Candidate Profiles’ section of the Christians and Candidates website.
  • Visit the Westminster 2010 site where a list of ‘preferred candidates’ for 250 marginal seats has just been published.
  • Watch the highlights from the national hustings event hosted by Christians and Candidates.

Please continue to probe your candidates and let us have any information that would be of interest to other Christian voters.

Please pray that Jesus Christ would be honoured in our land—for the glory of God and the good of all people.

Urgent Invitation to National Hustings in Central London

We’re in the midst of election season and Christians need to continue speaking up and praying that Jesus Christ will be honoured in our nation at this important time.

‘Christians and Candidates’ is organising a special event to give Christians the opportunity to ask questions of senior representatives from the major political parties.

The venue seats 1000 people. Filling the building would be an excellent way to show that Christians care deeply about the future of our society and the decisions that we face. Please come to this event, if you possibly can.

THIS COMING MONDAY – 7pm – Monday 26th April – Emmanuel Centre, Westminster

Please urge other Christians to support this event – why not forward this email to others or show the attached video in your small group and / or church this Sunday?

Time: 7pm (doors open at 6.15pm)

Venue: The Emmanuel Centre, 9 – 23 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3DW

To submit questions and to register, please visit www.christiansandcandidates.org/central.php

For more information, please contact Christians and Candidates: www.christiansandcandidates.org / info@christiansandcandidates.org / 020 3327 1123.

Please pray for this event and for the election.
