18th Jan 2010: Forgive our materialism

Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days. James 5:1-3

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21

Then one from the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” But He said to him, “Man, who made Me a judge or an arbitrator over you?” And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, [and] be merry.” ‘ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ “So [is] he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” Luke 12:13-21

Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’ and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked– counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, [that] the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. Revelation 3:17-20

17th Jan 2010: Create in us a good soil for the seeds of your word, to produce a rich harvest

A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be? And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. Luke 8:5-15

16th Jan 2010: Let your word be preached openly, clearly and without compromise

O earth, earth, earth, Hear the word of the LORD! Jeremiah 22:29

meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, Colossians 4:3

If anyone speaks, (let him) (speak) as the oracles of God. 1 Peter 4:11

The devastating earthquake which has taken approximately 50,000 lives and left Haiti in ruins has moved the hearts of people around the world to get mobilised and give to help the survivors. As Christians it is an essential part of our faith to help those in need and demonstrate the love and provision of God in the most dire situations. We know they will be depending on us for food, clean water and medical attention and our staff and churches in Haiti will be working tirelessly to ensure that their needs are met. We will be there for them in the months ahead as they come to terms with what has happened and we commit to continuing to show them God’s love and hope for the future.

Our immediate desire is to be found ready and able to do all we can to help them in rebuilding their shattered lives. Will you join us?”

15th Jan 2010: Once again let your word shape our nation

”For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And makes it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, An it shall prosper (in the thing) for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:10-11

”(Is) not My word like a fire?” says the LORD, ”And like a hammer (that) breaks the rock in pieces?. Jeremiah 23:29

For the word of God (is) living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, an of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
